Retained as the exclusive Strategic Advisors for the reorganization and revitalization of Boston International, a portfolio company of Russ Teddy Bear Investments, LLC, a private equity fund
Russ Teddy Bear Investments, LLC, a single family office private equity fund (funded substantially from distributions from Russ Berrie, a NYSE company), was seeking to revitalize one of its underperforming portfolio companies, Boston International.
As strategic advisors to the private equity fund, all aspects of the company were analyzed and assessed, including reasons for declining profitability, executive competencies, distribution channels, stock levels, product categories, financing, operations, key vendor relations and agreements.
As a result of an extensive review of all aspects of the company and its future prospects, we recommended to the Board that the incumbent co-Presidents and minority shareholders be replaced with a President that was more experienced with the products and distribution channels necessary to grow the company. A buyout of the minority interests of the co-President’s shares was structured as well as a restructuring and refinancing of the senior debt with a new lender to provide working capital for the company.
As part of our engagement a five (5) year strategic and tactical plan was created in collaboration with the new President, including a strategy for new distribution channels, product innovation, key vendor restructuring terms, implementation of a new website and ecommerce platform and reduced infrastructure costs to ensure the profitability and return on invested capital of the private equity fund.
